Paracas, Peru is a small coastal town with one main street. It’s known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse wildlife. When I arrived in town, I was welcomed by a sandstorm. Thankfully I had dropped off my bags in the hostel and I had made it to the restaurant just in time. Paracas has a desert climate with warm temperatures year-round. Be sure to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun, especially during the summer months starting in December to March.
How to get to Paracas
Paracas is easily accessible by bus or car from Lima – it’s approximately about a 4-hour drive.
You can take the public bus or travel by a hop on hop off bus service called Peru Hop. This is how I traveled throughout Peru and it’s a very simple and convenient service. As the tourist, you are in full control of your trip. You decide where to go, how long to stay, what hotel or Airbnb to stay at, and when to get back on the next bus. You schedule your pick up and drop off accommodation from their website so there’s no waiting at bus terminals or unnecessary taxis rides.
Once you’ve arrived at your accommodation in Paracas, getting around town and to nearby attractions can be done by taxi, bicycle, or organized tours.

Helpful Tip: Make sure to book your tour as soon as you get into town as this is one of the best things to do in Paracas, Peru.
I had my tour cancelled on three different occasions because of weather and rough waters. Not only that, but if you can then book all excursions in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, to secure your spot and avoid disappointment. It is a small town.
