The Czech Republic feels like it was sprinkled with a bit of enchantment. From dreamy castles perched on hilltops to lantern-lit alleys in ancient towns, it’s a place where fairy tales feel almost real. Prague shimmers with Gothic spires and golden rooftops, while villages look like they’ve been frozen in time, complete with gingerbread houses and forest paths that whisper old Bohemian legends. I’ve visited Prague on two different occasions, and I absolutely love this city! It’s currently on my bucket list to revisit during Christmas season.
How many days should you spend in Prague?
Plan to spend at least 3 to 4 days in Prague to fully enjoy its historic sites, charming neighborhoods, and local experiences without rushing. Prague is a very walkable city, with most major attractions easily reached on foot.
Explore Prague Castle
It’s one of the largest ancient castles in the world. Explore the entire complex, but especially St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, and Golden Lane.
Don’t miss the changing of the guard ceremony. It happens every day at noon in the first courtyard. Otherwise, you can see a “shift change” version of changing of the guards every hour on the hour from morning until evening at the main entrance.
Wander through the Old Town Square
Take a stroll through the picturesque Old Town Square, surrounded by historic buildings, churches, and colorful baroque facades. Don’t forget to admire the famous Astronomical Clock that’s hidden around the corner and the Gothic architecture of the Old Town Hall.

Every hour this medieval clock comes to life with moving figures. I remember the first time I went back in 2018; the clock was under renovation. I was so so disappointed. I look back now and laugh because they played a projection on a screen of the moving figurines.
Cross Charles Bridge
Walk across the iconic Charles Bridge, a historic 14th-century stone bridge lined with statues of saints and historical figures. It connects Old Town to the Lesser Quarter and offers stunning views of the Vltava River, Prague Castle, and the city skyline. The atmosphere is brought to life by street musicians and artists. Visit early in the morning for a quieter experience or return at sunset when the golden light casts a magical glow over the bridge and the castle beyond.
Sip Beer in a Traditional Czech Pub
Try a pint of beer in a cozy pub like U Medvidku or U Fleku.
Climb Petrin Hill
Only a 299-step climb to the top or take a funicular ride to the top of Petrin Hill for panoramic views of Prague and the surrounding area.
Enjoy Prague’s Parks and Gardens
Relax in one of Prague’s parks and gardens, such as Letná Park, Stromovka Park, or the Royal Garden of Prague Castle. Take a leisurely walk or simply have a picnic.
Visit the Prague National Gallery
Discover works by famous artists such as Alphonse Mucha, František Kupka, and Salvador Dalí.
When in Prague have a chimney cake and more….
Chimney cakes also known as trdelník are sold on every street corner. It’s a sweet, spiral-shaped pastry coated in sugar and cinnamon, often served warm and filled with ice cream or chocolate.

Discover Prague’s Baroque Churches
Churches are always free to visit. If you have the time then make sure to check out the following: St. Nicholas Church in the Old Town Square, St. James’s Church, and the Church of Our Lady Victorious with the Infant Jesus of Prague.
Take a River Cruise
Enjoy a scenic river cruise along the Vltava River, passing under Prague’s historic bridges and landmarks.
Attend a Classical Concert
Experience Prague’s rich musical heritage by attending a classical concert or opera performance at either the Rudolfinum, Obecni Dom, or St. Clement’s Cathedral.
Take a Day Trip to Kutná Hora
The most famous and haunting site in Kutná Hora is the Sedlec Ossuary, a small chapel decorated with the bones of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people. The remains are artistically arranged into chandeliers, pyramids, and even a coat of arms.
Discover Prague’s Street Art a.k.a. the Lennon Wall
Prague has a vibrant street art scene in neighborhoods such as Žižkov, Holešovice, and Karlín. Admire colorful murals, graffiti, and urban art installations.
See Franz Kafka Rotating Head
The rotating head in Prague, a giant kinetic sculpture of writer Franz Kafka by artist David Cerny, is made of mirrored panels that continuously spin to create a mesmerizing, ever-shifting portrait.
Visit the Dancing House
Admire the modern architecture of the Dancing House, also known as the Fred and Ginger Building. Designed by Frank Gehry, this unique building stands out amidst Prague’s historic skyline.
