The WNDR museum initially was supposed to be a temporarily art pop up exhibition. That is why when it first came to Chicago, I went immediately. However, the WNDR museum has now transitioned into a permanent museum that is found in three different cities across the United Sates. I have gone to the WNDR museum twice now and I’ve also attended a few of their events. Here’s everything to expect if you choose to visit the WNDR museum yourself.
The Museum Visit
Interactive Art Installations
The museum features a variety of interactive art installations designed to engage all of your senses. These installations often incorporate elements of technology, light, sound, and movement to create captivating experiences. The museum does rotate and has new exhibitions every so often. I did notice that when I went in 2018 and then again in 2019 that not every installation was replaced. There was some overlap and I did end up revisiting some of the same pieces. I didn’t mind it, but it is something to consider.
Limited Time Exhibits
With that being said some installations are there on display for only a certain period of time. The museum frequently rotates its exhibits, so you may encounter new installations each time you visit. Be sure to check the museum’s website or social media channels for information on current and upcoming exhibits. Personally, one of my favorite artist is Yayoi Kusama and she usually has different pieces of artwork featured. Her installations are typically the last exhibit you’ll visit before exiting the museum and it’s a timed experience. You will have exactly 60 seconds.
Instagram-Worthy Photo Opportunities
Many of the exhibits are designed with social media in mind, offering visually stunning backdrops perfect for capturing memorable photos or even videos.Very important to keep in mind that this isn’t a traditional art museum. There is an emphasize on the artworks to be more interactive. If the museum is busy you may notice yourself standing in a queue as you go from room to room because the museum visitors are waiting to take photos with each exhibit.
Crowds
Depending on the time of day and day of the week, the museum can be quite popular and may have crowds. Consider purchasing tickets in advance or visiting during off-peak hours if you prefer a quieter experience. Remember there is no time limit on how long you can be in the museum. You can take your time as you go from exhibit to exhibit. The first time I went, I rushed through the museum. Take your time and do not hurry.
Events
I’ve attended a morning yoga session at the museum in the past. If you are in town go ahead and view their events section on their website to see if you can join and enhance your experience.
Overall, a visit to the WNDR Museum in Chicago promises to be a fun, interactive, and visually stunning experience that will leave you with lasting memories and perhaps a new perspective on art and technology. I personally recommend a visit to the WNDR museum.
